Sex Abuse Intervention
In 1996, Professional Parenting began a program specializing in the treatment of adolescent sexual offenders. The objectives of the program are to provide a broad range of services to adjudicated youthful offenders to allow these youth to remain in their homes, to promote safety in the community, and to prevent further sexual offending.

Referrals to the program are made through the Buncombe County Department of Juvenile Justice. The program offers services to adolescents who have been adjudicated for various sexual offenses, and have been ordered by the Court to participate in an evaluation and/or treatment for these problems.

    * A nationally certified program model, The Teaching Family Model, that teaches children socially acceptable behaviors.
    * Psychosexual Evaluation (Sex Offender-Specific Evaluation)
    * In-home family therapy
    * Weekly sex offender-specific group therapy
    * Monthly parent education/support group
    * Individual therapy
    * Individualized safety plans in the home, school and community
    * On-going consultation with juvenile court counselors to monitor client’s treatment progress and status in the home/community
    * Family reunification when appropriate
    * Step-down services for clients who are transitioning back into the community from residential placements

Intensive Program
There are children age 12 and under whose sexual abuse history and exposure to violence is so extensive that they develop sexual behavior problems. Professional Parenting has designed its Intensive Program to meet the unique needs of these children.

Children in this program are placed with Professional Parenting treatment families specifically trained and supported to meet their special needs. Only one child is placed with each family. In order to support a safe and healthy living environment, both the child and his or her treatment parents attend weekly group sessions and in-home consultations.

Program Components:
    * A nationally certified program model, The Teaching Family Model, that teaches children socially acceptable behaviors.
    * Specially selected and trained treatment parents who are taught strategies for working with this population
    * Weekly group sessions, both for the children and treatment parents
    * Weekly in-home consultations by professional staff
    * 24/7 program and telephone support
    * Specialized respite services
    * Monthly financial compensation

Referral Information
They accept referrals of children ages 3-12 who have displayed inappropriate touching issues and who are in the custody of the department of social services.

For more information about the referral process, in the Asheville area, contact Tammy Deitz at tammy.deitz@familyinnovations.org or call (828) 236-2877.

Adolescent Intensive Program
This program for adolescent sex offenders is a unique service offering treatment foster care to a population of youth that would otherwise be sent to a residential facility. The program offers the structure and supervision necessary to maintain safety for the community, while providing the least restrictive environment possible.

Referrals to the program are made through mental health agencies or the Department of Social Services. This program offers services to adolescents who have been adjudicated for various sex offenses as well as adolescents who have demonstrated sexually abusive behavior, but have not been adjudicated.

Youth must be involved in outpatient treatment specifically designed for sexually abusive adolescents while living in the treatment foster home. This program is considered a Level II residential program and can be used as the first step in treatment or as a step down program.

Youth involved in the Buncombe County Juvenile Justice system may choose to receive Sex Offender treatment through our outpatient Sex Abuse Intervention program and those not involved in the Buncombe County Juvenile Justice system will be required to obtain outpatient treatment through other providers in the community. This program is funded through Medicaid and CMSED funds available for this population.
